Cosmetic packaging materials - plastic bottles
Cosmetic packaging materials, especially skin care packaging materials, are basically divided into two categories: glass and plastic. Here is a brief summary of plastic packaging materials.
1. Different plastic materials
One of the most commonly used cosmetic inner packaging materials is plastic packaging materials, which include: PP, PE, PS, PET, PETG, AS, ABS, acrylic, etc.
1. PP
PP material is high polymer polypropylene, and plastic is a high molecular compound, which is non-toxic, harmless, and odorless. It has good heat resistance and cold resistance, and has good chemical stability. It is not easy to change its chemical properties when encountering strong acids and alkalis
Features: milky white and translucent, lubricated, and non-greasy; PP bottles are softer than PET, easier to pinch, and less transparent than PET, so some opaque shampoo bottles are more commonly used (easy to squeeze).
How to color PP materials: Use masterbatch produced by a special manufacturer (a particle with a high color concentration composed of a coloring agent, a carrier resin, and a dispersant). It has a good coloring effect, and the masterbatch is directly added to the product during the production process of PP plastic. After stirring, it can enter the next process normally, and the product will have color.
2. PE
PE: Polyethylene. The material is basically opaque, the material will be softer, and it is not as smooth as PET.
Cosmetic applications: hoses, lotion bottles, bottle caps, etc.
3. PET
PET is polyethylene terephthalate, which is a thermoplastic polyester. The surface is relatively smooth and shiny, can resist friction, and has good dimensional stability and high hardness, but it is not resistant to hot water immersion and alkali. The material is an environmentally friendly material with high barrier properties, light weight, non-breakable characteristics, chemical resistance, and extremely strong transparency. It can be made into pearlescent, colored, magnetic white, and transparent. It is widely used in packing gel water.
Features: PET has high transparency, the bottle body is soft, can be pinched but is harder than PP.
4. PETG
PETG has better transparency than PET, but it is not commonly used in China. It has high cost, high waste, one-time molding, and non-recyclable materials. PETG is used for various long-lasting daily necessities, such as cosmetic bottles, perfume bottles, pharmaceutical packaging containers, etc. Compared with PET, PETG has higher transparency, better chemical resistance, better oil resistance, and better weather resistance (yellowing) than PET. The procurement cost of PETG is 2-3 times that of PET.
5. AS
AS: AS, also known as SAN, styrene acrylonitrile copolymer, has higher impact strength and excellent heat resistance, oil resistance, and chemical corrosion resistance than polystyrene (PS). It has low hardness, is relatively brittle (there is a crisp sound when knocked), has good transparency, can be directly in contact with cosmetics and food, and is generally the material of the bottle body in ordinary lotion bottles and vacuum bottles. It can also be made into small-capacity cream bottles. It is transparent. Cream bottles, powder boxes, eyeshadow boxes.

AS, ABS: AS has better transparency than ABS and better toughness.
6. ABS
ABS: It is an engineering plastic, not environmentally friendly, has a high hardness, and cannot be directly in contact with cosmetics and food. In acrylic cosmetic packaging materials, it is generally used as the material for the inner cover and shoulder cover. The color is yellow or milky white.
It is important to note that if the ABS packaging material directly contacts the material body, please note that the material body must not contain alkane lubricants, because it will cause the non-crystalline area of ABS to absorb and swell, become brittle, and crack.
7. Acrylics
Acrylics: Thick and hard, the most glass-like is acrylic.
Acrylic is an injection-molded bottle with poor chemical resistance. Generally, it cannot be directly filled with paste. It needs to be equipped with an inner liner to block it. It is not easy to fill it too full to prevent the paste from entering between the inner liner and the acrylic bottle to avoid cracking. The packaging requirements are high during transportation because it looks particularly obvious after scratching, has high permeability, and has a very thick wall, but the price is quite expensive.
2. Bottle body process
Color: 1. Customizable color, usually primary color frosting and magnetic white, or pearlescent powder effect. Although the plastic bottle and the cap are matched with the same masterbatch, sometimes the color is different due to the different materials used for the bottle and the cap. 2. PP and ABS bottles are mostly made of solid colors, PETG materials and acrylic bottles are mostly made of transparent colors, which have a sense of transparency. Acrylic bottle walls are mostly sprayed with colors, which can refract light and have good effects.
Printing: Silk screen printing has ordinary ink and UV ink. UV ink has better effect, gloss and three-dimensional sense. During production, the color should be confirmed by making a plate first. The silk screen effect on different materials will be different.
Hot stamping and silver stamping: Hot stamping and silver stamping are different from the effects of gold powder and silver powder. Hard materials and smooth surfaces are more suitable for hot stamping and silver stamping. Soft surfaces have poor hot stamping effects and are easy to fall off. The glossiness of hot stamping and silver stamping is better than that of gold and silver stamping.
Pump head: According to the manufacturing process, there are: A, electroplated pump head: B, electroplated aluminum pump head: C, plastic pump head
Outer cover: PP material is mostly used, but there are also PS, ABC and acrylic materials.
According to the structure, it is divided into double-layer cover and single-layer cover:
Double-layer cover: A, PP inner cover + PS and acrylic outer cover; B, PP inner cover + outer cover PP, ABS material electroplating; C, PP inner cover + electroplated aluminum outer cover; D, PP inner cover + PP or ABS sprayed outer cover Single-layer cover: PP material is commonly used
Cap technology: The cover edge can be hot stamped with gold or silver, sprayed with oil; the inner cover of the double-layer cover can be silk-screened with a logo, and the outer cover can be transparent with a transparent effect. The outer cover can be embossed with an electroplated aluminum logo.
